Regardless of whether you need a truck for work or play, GMC's mid-size Canyon more than measures up. There's efficient Vortec power under the hood, and both 2-wheel drive and sophisticated Insta-Trac 4x4 drivetrains are available. The Canyon cargo box is a sturdy, double-wall steel design with a number of clever features, like a 2-position tailgate, that make it both versatile and practical. Payload ratings go as high as 696 kg (1535 lb.), making Canyon a great choice for almost any job. Should you need to move an even heavier load, Canyon is rated to tow up to 1814 kg (4000 lb.) when properly equipped. For 2008, Canyon's standard engine is a brawny 2.9L Vortec in-line four that generates 185 horsepower - more than any other four-cylinder engine in the class.** For even more power, there's an available 242 horsepower 3.7L Vortec five-cylinder engine† that delivers outstanding fuel efficiency. The Vortec 2.9L engine comes with a choice of standard five-speed manual and available four-speed automatic transmissions, while the 3.7L powerplant is offered exclusively with the four-speed automatic.†

Canyon's available Insta-Trac 4-wheel drive gives you the traction you need to handle the worst winter weather. It's an electronically controlled system that lets you shift on the fly from one drive mode to another by simply pressing a button on the instrument panel.
