Take an engineer, a designer, and a truck owner with the highest expectations, throw them in a room together and tell them they can't come out until they've created the perfect truck. If you did that, the result would be much like the Denali XT - the superstar concept vehicle at this year's Chicago Auto Show.

A Totally New Take on Trucks

Designed and built by Australia's GM Global Design Centre, the Denali XT is an entirely new approach to truck design. With an exterior that fits an art gallery more than an auto show, the Denali XT's beauty is more than skin deep. Compared to other small pickups, it can pull 1588 kg (3,500 lb.) and offers a huge boost in fuel efficiency.

An Ingenious Engine

The Denali XT borrows the popular small-block V8, but uses a smaller-displacement 4.9L version. The 325 hp (estimated) engine maximizes power and fuel efficiency through GM's cylinder-deactivating Active Fuel Management® technology and direct-fuel injection. The combined E85-capablity and two-mode hybrid system saves even more on fuel, and is a first for GM.

What a Body

Performance is also improved through the new overall construction. Unlike traditional body-on-frame configuration where the frame is bolted on, this lighter alternative has a unitized body architecture that reduces overall mass. The body is also stiffer than body-on-frame trucks, so the Denali XT Concept handles more like a car and gets better fuel efficiency due to the weight reduction. Kelly Bluebook Youtube video
