We put all of ourselves into the development of the 2008 Chevy Silverado. We started with a rock-solid foundation, as the most dependable, longest-lasting full-size pickups on the road.** But building a stronger, more powerful, more capable and refined pickup was only step one. The real test was how this family of pickups would perform in the real world. The results speak for themselves: Silverado 1500 Crew Cab delivers unsurpassed maximum towing capacity and payload capacity.†† And the Silverado HD proves itself as the most powerful heavy-duty on the planet. The accolades followed, including some of the most prestigious media and industry awards. We put everything into the 2008 Chevy Silverado. Now it's your turn.
After an impressive 2007, the next generation Chevy Silverado is now being honoured with the 2008 AJAC Canadian Truck of the Year award. How fitting for a truck that has successfully reinvented itself for generations, and always managed to stay one step ahead of the competition.
You want to be greener. So do we. In fact, we take our responsibility for the environment so seriously that Chevrolet offers more fuel saving choices than any other brand. Equipped with Active Fuel Management®, Silverado switches between the power of eight cylinders and the efficiency of four. * When running on E85 fuel Silverado cuts smog-forming emissions dramatically. Learn more about our green technologies.
The Chevy Silverado has the ultimate safety standards and the rating to prove it. The 2008 Silverado 1500 has a 5-Star Frontal and Side Crash Test Rating - the highest possible Front and Side impact U.S. Government safety rating.***
Silverado 1500's Vortec engine lineup proves that you don't need to trade off power for fuel efficiency. The 315 horsepower Vortec 5.3L V8 and 367 horsepower VortecMAX 6.0L V8 engines achieve a higher output, while realizing meaningful gains in fuel efficiency. That is thanks in part to Active Fuel Management® technology that shuts down half the engine's cylinders when power demands are low.
Silverado HD's available Duramax 6.6L V8 Turbo Diesel has no equal for power output, producing 365 hp and a ground-breaking 660 lb.-ft. of torque. But it has met its match with the Allison 6-speed automatic transmission that features tap-up/tap-down shift controls, in addition to such sophisticated features as grade braking, cruise grade braking, shift stabilization and Tow/Haul mode.
The look is rugged — just like the engineering, with a powerful stance and available 20-inch wheels. The shape is also exceptionally aerodynamic with its steeply raked 57-degree windshield. That translates into better fuel efficiency and a quieter ride. And that's not all that's smooth — getting cargo into the box is made that much easier by the available EZ Lift tailgate.
Silverado helps protect its occupants from all sides with a 360 collision sensing system. But the priority is avoiding an incident before it occurs, with the help of features like StabiliTrak™ (standard on 1500 Crew Cabs, available on Extended Cabs) and a tire pressure monitoring system.
When you build a truck as dependable as the 2008 Silverado, you back it with no less than the best coverage in Canada — our $0 deductible 5 year/160,000 km Powertrain Limited Warranty,† in addition to 5 year/160,000 km Courtesy Transportation and Roadside Assistance.†
