Meet the Green Team

Garry Sowerby

Founder and President of Odyssey International Limited, Garry executed a record-setting drive around the world in 1980 and went on to break another 3 world records in long-distance driving. Garry has been creating and implementing international driving adventures for 25 years. His wish to give something back to Canada and the environment has been the driving force behind Mission Green.

He is also a columnist for the Halifax Herald newspaper and the author of a book entitled Sowerby’s Road… Adventures of a Driven Mind (http://www.sowerbysroad.com)

Bill Rumsey


Bill Rumsey Mission Green Team member, Vehicle Technician and IT specialist with the Chevrolet Silverado Parallel Hybrid Truck

Hailing from St. John’s, Newfoundland where he is employed as a Certified Vehicle Technician for Hickman Motors, Bill brings to Mission Green his versatile talent for anything technical in relation to vehicles or computers. He has over 15 years of hands-on experience and is at the top of his field in vehicle diagnostics. He is highly adaptable to any situation and always works calmly and steadily. His enduring passion with fly-fishing keeps him near rivers and streams any chance he gets.

Peter Schlay

Our resident medic and jack-of-all-trades, is the most recent addition to the Mission Green Team. With his varied background and interests, Pete brings adaptability to the Mission. His work as Captain of a Volunteer Fire Department has given him extensive First Aid and emergency first response experience. He can build anything out of wood (like a house!!) and knows the ins and outs of construction management. He has an innate vehicle mechanical knowledge that most likely comes from being an auto enthusiast supreme. His immaculately-restored show cars have won him numerous awards.

Stewart Yule

Haligonian Stew Yule has a continuing fascination with the earth. Geologist and extreme sports enthusiast, Stew attacks new challenges with zeal. From camping and hiking to surfing the winter Atlantic waves or exploring the Canadian Rockies, Stew loves being and working outdoors. He is a strong supporter of the conservation of our planet for future generations. He brings stamina, curiosity and fine research capabilities to the Mission Green Team.

Lisa Calvi

With a background in languages, education and keeping Odyssey organized, Lisa rounds out the Mission Green Team. Educated in Canada, England and France, Lisa brings a global perspective to the Mission. She joins the Tour for the Quebec portion of the trip. After that, she provides logistics support from Odyssey’s headquarters in Halifax, NS, guiding the team from site to site virtually.
